Decibel is a mixed choir from Östersund,
a small city in the middle of Sweden. The choir was
formed in 1998 and had 14 members at its first-ever
appearance. Since then, the choir has grown and today
there are about 34 singers.
Decibel have appeared on numerous
occasions, many of which have been under own direction.
A second place in the Swedish Choir Singing Championships
of 1998 and a third place in 2002 are considered great
merits. Here are some of our memorable moments:
- the well-received appearance in Skinnskatteberg
on Sweden's largest, most well-known choir festival
before 3,000 spectators
- a just as well-received musical mini tour, "Absolut
Musikal", arranged by the Norrland Dance
and Music Theatre
- the Christmas concerts in 2001 together with
the famous Swedish singer Anna-Lotta Larsson,
and in 2002 together with the equally famous guitarist
Janne Schaffer.
The choir has recorded three CDs:
"Live"
(1998)
"Jul" (1999)
"Astrid" (2007)
In their musical arrangements, Decibel
try to break free from the traditional boundaries
of choir singing in order to find new ways with their
music. In terms of genres, the choir stretches from
classical to pop and rock via folk music, jazz and
musical. 90% of the choir arrangements are written
specifically for Decibel by their conductor Roger
Rådström. No choir member has a fixed voice
position; everyone changes places among the voices
to achieve the desired quality and timbre in a certain
song.
